Spectators (and Kids) Rock the Rush

Spectators — Now FREE!

When we first started HERO RUSH we envisioned a fair number of spectators and created the “(Not Just a) Spectator” pass that included full access to the Inferno Midway, great viewing access to many obstacles and $5 in “Hero Dinero” good for food, drinks (yes, including beer) and Hero Rush apparel/swag.

The response we received at our first two events was overwhelming — over 300 spectators at Maryland and 500+ in Michigan. That included many kids as well (see below), over 150 of which participated in our Kid’s races in Michigan.

But we know more wanted to come — and firefighting is all about family, friends and fun. So we’ve decided to eliminate the charge for Spectators for 2012.

We know quite a few other races charge for spectators and in the future we may create new programs to enhance the Spectator experience as we expand our offerings, entertainment, Midway and more. But for the rest of 2012, all spectators are free!

Those that have registered online as Spectators for upcoming events will be contacted and refunded! Of course, this also means that spectators will no longer get the $5 in Hero Dinero — but we think you’ll still find a way to enjoy some great food and beverages at the event! All full registrants (runners) will always get $5 in Dinero.

The vast majority (90%+) of spectators for our first events signed up on site the day of the event, so for now we’ll be eliminating online registration for spectators. Just bring your friends, family and more day-of and they can cheer you on.

Spectators will still need to come through a special area of registration, get a wristband and sign a waiver when applicable.

Kid’s Races Growing

Our Junior Heroes Course, which includes a t-shirt and medal, can be purchased in advance online or day of event for $15. We’re continuing to make changes and upgrades to the Kid’s Course to make it totally awesome!

The “Mini-Rushers” course for 4-6 year olds is free and runs throughout the event, typically in the Midway. We’re also exploring ways to allow 4-6 year-olds an opportunity to try some of the “Juniors” obstacles at upcoming events, so stay tuned.

Our hope is that HERO RUSH not only becomes a great festival, party event that Obstacle Racers love, but also has plenty of activities for families and friends to enjoy just as much as those Rushin’. We’re a new event series and we’re constantly taking in feedback from our participants at events, via surveys, on Facebook and beyond. We want to make this an event our participants help grow with us, so be on the lookout for new features, upgrades and more in the future as we continue our first year of HERO RUSH!
